In the New Policy: Disclosures

The new policy aims to be clear that a disclosure and a complaint are not the same, and that making a disclosure does not require that a formal complaint be submitted. Survivors have control over what happens at all stages of their disclosure and any formal complaint process that they choose to initiate.

Key Updates to Disclosures in the New Policy

The new policy includes clearer processes for handling a disclosure, and connecting a survivor with support, by centralizing the reporting of all disclosures of gender-based sexual violence to the Gender-Based Violence & Survivor Support Case Manager and detailing information on how a disclosure and complaint are handled.

Support for Survivors

Disclosing

As a survivor, a disclosure does not require you to file a Complaint to be able to access any of the available supports and resources. A disclosure can be made to university employees, emeriti, visiting professors, contractors, affiliated persons and student leaders. *Survivors remain the decision-maker throughout the process.

Survivor Support Case Manager

The Survivor Support Case Manager is there to connect survivors with resources and support, regardless of whether a complaint is submitted. Connecting with them does not result in a formal complaint. You can contact them at:

Making a Formal Complaint

With support from the Survivor Support Case Manager, a formal complaint can be filed against the respondent. All reports, whether anonymous or not, can be reported using our online form. *Survivors are supported and remain the decision-maker throughout the complaint process.

For Those Receiving a Disclosure

Disclosures and Confidentiality

A disclosure can be made to university employees, emeriti, visiting professors, contractors, affiliated persons and student leaders. Receiving a disclosure means assuming responsibility for the well-being of a survivor. Only share information to ensure survivors can make informed decisions. Helping means connecting survivors with professional support & advice. *Survivors are not required to file a complaint to receive access to supports.

Anyone receiving a disclosure should listen and connect the Survivor with the Survivor Support Case Manager (excluding health care providers) who can support regardless of whether a formal complaint is submitted
