Academic Support and Engagement CAS Review

In 2021, Student Experience engaged in a comprehensive review of three of the four units in the Academic Support & Engagement department: Learning Development & Success, the Writing Support Centre, and Accessible Education. This review is part of a recurring review process that was instituted by Student Experience in 2019 to promote continuous improvement and excellence in program delivery.

How is the university responding to the recommendations in the report?

All of the recommendations will be important to guide our next actions, and the implementation committee will be central to deciding how we roll out the recommendations.
We have prioritized the order in which we will implement these recommendations based on our impact/implementation matrix (see below).
We did not get to this place overnight, and it will also take some time to address the recommendations and move forward together.

How will actions on these recommendations be decided?

An Implementation Committee made up of campus stakeholders, including students with disabilities, will create an action plan.

How will implementation committee members be selected?

We need time to thoughtfully engage the entire campus community so that what we implement is sustainable in the long-term.
While this is being convened right now, we are committed to prioritizing the membership of students with disabilities.

How will you keep the community informed on your progress in addressing the recommendations in the report?

We are committed to engaging with student government leaders, the implementation committee, and will be providing regular annual updates on progress as part of the Student Experience annual reporting cycle.
The implementation committee will report to the AVP SE office who will be responsible for reporting back to the Provost.
A community town hall will be planned during the next academic year to review the actions proposed by the implementation committee. This is planned for the future to allow time for the community to fully process the report, to provide space for the implementation committee to develop actions that can be shared for feedback, and most importantly, to occur at a time when it's more likely possible for students to be back on-campus to engage in this discussion.
